Johann Anton von Herbort

Johann Anton von Herbort (born May 18, 1702 in Bern ; † November 10, 1757 there ) was a Swiss master builder .

Life

Herbort was born in Bern as the son of the local stocking manufacturer and military engineer Johannes Herbort. He received his training in Hungary. He then entered the imperial service and was trained in fortress architecture in the Balkans from 1721 under Colonel Nicolas Doxat . In 1730 he became director of fortifications in the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies , and in 1731 captain in Capua . Later he entered service in the ducal Württemberg. After Donato Giuseppe Frisoni's dismissal and imprisonment , Herbort was temporarily appointed chief building director for public buildings in 1734 and thus head of the entire Württemberg building industry. With Frisoni's rehabilitation he was only responsible for building the fortress. In 1735 he was appointed lieutenant colonel . From 1737 to 1742 he directed the construction of the Hohenneuffen fortress . In 1742 he returned to Switzerland and took over the Landvogtei Morges .

Awards

Herbort was appointed Chamberlain of Württemberg during his service for Duke Karl Alexander .
