Johann Balthasar von Herold

Johann Balthasar von Herold (* in Breslau  ?; Buried May 28, 1727 in Nuremberg ) was a German bell founder and gun founder .

Herold was born the son of Hans Georg Herold . He was a Protestant denomination. His father and his brothers was on March 16, 1654 by Ferdinand III. awarded a letter of nobility. On July 16, 1695 he married Maria Magdalena († 1709), daughter of the undertaker Lorenz Sensheimer. After the death of his first wife, on June 27, 1711 he married Barbara Magdalena (buried 1732), daughter of the saddler Johann Serz. With Christian Viktor Herold he had a son from his first marriage.

Herold took over his foundry in 1693 after the death of his uncle Wolf Hieronymus Herold . In the same year he became a master. He poured many bells in Middle Franconia, Upper Franconia, Württemberg and in the Upper Palatinate. He cast his bells in family style. In addition, he poured cannons. In 1708 he cast the Nuremberg “monthly pipes”.

Around 40 bells are still preserved in Middle Franconia, 3 in the Nördlingen district and several in the Upper Palatinate and Upper Franconia. Until about 1700 he used an acanthus leaf frieze. Then he used the lace friezes from his step-grandfather Leonhard Löw .

His grave (No. 184) is in the Johannisfriedhof . The epitaph is dated to 1700.
