Johann Bartholome Arpagaus

Johann Bartholome Arpagaus (born October 3, 1810 in Cumbel , † February 3, 1882 there ) was a Swiss politician and doctor . From 1851 to 1854 he was a member of the National Council and from 1860 to 1861 the Council of States .

biography

The son of a farmer received his secondary education in Feldkirch , Solothurn and Lucerne . He then studied medicine at the Universities of Freiburg im Breisgau , Paris and Heidelberg . Arpagaus opened a doctor's practice in Ilanz and bought Bad Peiden in the Valsertal . He was the director of the local Kurhaus until a landslide in 1868 buried the springs. From 1865 to 1873 he was an employee and from 1866 to 1869 editor of the liberal newspaper Ligia GrischaHe has also published articles on medical, literary and political topics.

Arpagaus was a councilor in Ilanz for several years . He was a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Graubünden from 1848 to 1850, from 1856 to 1858 as well as 1864/65 and 1868/69. This elected him for the years 1866/67 and 1870/71 in the small council . Arpagaus ran in the National Council elections in 1851 and was elected in the Graubünden-West constituency. After he waived re-election in 1854, he ran in 1857 without success. The Great Council elected Arpagaus, which dealt mainly with transport and trade issues, to the Council of States for the years 1860/61.
