Johann Carl Friedrich Witting (born March 30, 1760 in Alfeld , † January 14, 1824 in Braunschweig ) was a German Lutheran theologian and author .

Life and accomplishments

Johann Carl Friedrich Witting was the eldest son of Pastor Nicolaus Christoph Witting (1728–1816) and his wife Christiane Friederike Elisabeth, née. Temme (1735-1819). After studying theology at the University of Göttingen , he initially worked as a private tutor before becoming patronage preacher in Ellensen in 1783 . In 1799 he became the second pastor of St. Magnus Church in Braunschweig, and from 1805 until his death, finally the first pastor there.

In addition to his work as a pastor, JCF Witting was the author of various writings that made him well known in his day.

family

JCF Witting was since 1784 with Dorothea Wilhelmina, geb. Leonhardt (1759–1837) married. They had eight children together. The son Ernst August Georg (1795-1870) succeeded his father in 1824 as pastor of St. Magnus Church. The son Carl Wilhelm Christoph (1792–1797) died of the consequences of the red dysentery .

The Brunswick businessman Ernst Franz Witting and the Hanoverian court building officer Diedrich Christian Ludwig Witting were his cousins; the later Hanoverian Oberhof building director Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves his nephew and godchild.
