Johann Christian Degener
Johann Christian Degener (born September 26, 1774 in Braunschweig ; † November 22, 1854 in Leipzig ) was a Braunschweig councilor and founder of Degenershausen in the Harz region . In his honor, an obelisk was erected in the Degenershausen Landscape Park in 1859 , which was renewed in 1993.
In 1834 Degener acquired a piece of land between Neuplatendorf and Falkenstein Castle (Harz) and gave it to his daughter for her wedding with Chamberlain Hans-Constantin von Bodenhausen . In the following year he had a manor house (demolished in 1986/87) with a park built, which was given its current appearance in the style of an English landscape park in 1924.
