Johann Christian Friedrich Gutkaes senior
Johann Christian Friedrich Gutkaes sen. (* June 16, 1785 in Dresden ; † August 8, 1845 in Dresden) was a German watchmaker (pocket watches) in Dresden and royal court watchmaker from 1842 to 1845.
Gutkaes became a master watchmaker in 1815 and in the same year married the daughter of the then court watchmaker Johann Friedrich Schumann (1758–1817). Gutkaes became known for his 5-minute digital clock, i.e. a clock that displayed the time in digits in 5-minute intervals, in the first Dresden Semperoper , which was destroyed in a fire in 1869. His small pocket watches were something special at the time.
He is considered to be the co-founder of the watch manufacture in Glashütte , which was largely founded by his apprentices and sons-in-law Ferdinand Adolph Lange and Friedrich August Adolf Schneider .
