The Artschlag family lived in Stráž u Tachova (German: Neustadtl) as early as the 17th century. At the end of the 17th / beginning of the 18th century, the sculptor Andreas Artschlag moved from Bavaria to Neustadtl. In 1722 he created the still-preserved Nepomuk statue on the Ringplatz in Neustadtl, as well as a statue of St. John of God at the sacristy of the Wenceslas Church in Neustadtl. His son Johann Christoph Artschlag was probably born at the beginning of the 18th century. His most famous work, which is still preserved today (2015), is the high altar in the Nikolauskirche in Bor u Tachova, on which he worked from 1745 to 1749. In some sources, Johann Christoph Artschlag is also mentioned as the creator of the above-mentioned Nepomuk statue.
