history

Town view before 1918

The first documentary mention of the place in 1115 as the property of the Kladrau monastery is probably a forgery. The origin of the former manor is also unclear. The view that it was supposed to have been a residence of the Magdalenese from Mies in the 14th century is now considered unlikely. In the 15th century, the neighboring Vorwerk became the seat of the Schwanberger (Czech: ze Švamberka ).

There is evidence that Altsattel has belonged to the monastery since the beginning of the 15th century and was confirmed by King Sigismund in 1420 . A short time later, the village including the estate was pledged . From 1578 to 1590, Altsattel was owned by the Schwanbergers.

Adam von Schwanberg introduced the Protestant denomination in his territory in 1578 based on the principle of Cuius regio, eius religio . 1643 Catholic again, Altsattel was of Pernartitz from administered . After the end of the Thirty Years' War , five out of twelve farmers in Altsattel were designated as new farmers in 1658.

The following owners included the noble families von Ruppau (z Roupova) , Kokorowec (Kokořovec z Kokořova) , Kotz von Dobrz (Koc z Dobřa) , von Thurn, Pechmann von Schönau, von Groschopf, von Spandko, Lazansky, von Sinzendorf and Hildprandt von and to Ottenhausen. In 1732, Dominik Markwart, Prince of Löwenstein-Wertheim, acquired the old saddle.

There were 18 dead and 18 missing in each of the First and Second World Wars .

In 1939 Altsattel had 270 inhabitants, all of them German nationality. On May 5, 1945, the 23rd US Infantry Regiment, coming from the west, occupied the place without a fight. After the end of the Second World War, three families were deported to the interior of the country on November 1, 1945. From March 1, 1946, all German residents were expelled to the Allied zones in Germany. Pastor Josef Lang was the last German to leave Staré Sedlo on September 8, 1950.

Church of the Assumption

The parish church of Maria Himmelfahrt is a Gothic building from around 1300. The oldest part is the Katharinenkapelle, which was probably built as early as the 12th century. There are tombs and epitaphs of the Counts of Schwanberg. In the sacristy there is an epitaph of the knight Groschopf von Elsch. During communist rule the church deteriorated and was devastated. The restoration that had been carried out since 1992 was completed in 2013. The ceiling frescoes were renovated and the Gothic wall paintings were partially exposed again.

The village used to be divided in two by a pond, in the place of which there is now a meadow. A statue of St. John Nepomuk , probably from the first half of the 18th century , stands on the dam, the former connection between the districts .

A war memorial with the names of 16 victims of the First World War stands in the small park in front of the church.
