geography

In the north-east of the municipality there is the Lučina reservoir , in which the Mies is dammed and where the village of Lučina u Tachova ( Sorghof ) used to be.

history

Brand was first mentioned in 1669. Brand was one of the villages in the woods near Tachau that were called "Waldheiseln" or "ex sylva" in old church registers. Girnberg was founded in 1778.

To better distinguish it from the nearby place of the same name, the name Tachauer Brand was used , while the other village was called Planer Brand . In the registers of the parishes in Purschau and Schönwald, the place is occasionally called "Albersdorfer Brand". The Albersdorf mill, which was mentioned in a document in 1607, belonged to Brand.

The first Waldhäusler settlements emerged a few years after the Thirty Years' War. In 1713 the village already consisted of 35 houses, in 1838 of 137 houses. From 1850, the community was part of the Tachau district .

Brand belonged to the former Austrian monarchy under the rule of the Habsburgs from 1526 until the end of the First World War in 1918 . The border with Bavaria ran a few kilometers from the village in the west.

The pastoral care of all Waldhäusler settlements was initially provided by the Dechantei Tachau. By court decree of Emperor Joseph II , the Sorghof-Brand chaplaincy was established in 1785 and an emergency church was built in Sorghof on the way to Mauthdorf . She received the Franciscan altar from the dissolved Franciscan monastery in Heiligen bei Tachau. In 1814, the construction of a parish church , the stone Peter and Paul Church, began in Brand ; in addition there was the rectory (No. 119). The schoolhouse was built in 1827 and one floor was added in 1878. In 1874 Girnberg also received a school.

In 1938, 1,118 people lived in Brand, including Girnberg, and the place consisted of 207 houses.

After the Munich Agreement , the place was added to the German Empire and until 1945 belonged to the Tachau district . The Second World War ended for the population with the invasion of American troops, who advanced from the neighboring Bavarian border to Brand and Girnberg.

After the expulsion of the German population, many buildings fell into disrepair because they remained uninhabited and they were demolished.
