Chodová Planá (German Kuttenplan ) is a Městys with 1853 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019) in the Czech Republic . It is 537 m above sea level. M., about eight kilometers south of the city of Marienbad , and belongs to the Okres Tachov .

history

Already in 1316 the place - raised to town in 1514 - was mentioned in historical sources in the possession of the knights Ctibor and Oldrich. The small fortress from this period was inhabited until 1733.

The Counts of Haimhausen had ruled since the 16th century. During a fire in 1733 the former church of the village burned down. In the years 1748–1754 it was replaced by the new baroque church and rectory. The parish church was consecrated to St. John the Baptist. In 1930, according to official statistics, there were 1698 Catholics and 37 non-Catholics in the Kuttenplan community.

The baroque castle, a two-winged storey building with a mansard roof , was built as early as 1734, followed by another small castle in 1906.

The first written mention of the Kuttenplaner brewery comes from 1573. The owners were initially the von Schlick family . In 1634 “1,920 buckets” of beer, around 1,173 hl, were brewed in Kuttenplan.

After a fire in 1861, the then owner, Count von Berchem-Haimhausen, had the brewery built over the old rock cellars, which was owned by the Counts of Berchem-Haimhausen until the Second World War. Today the Czech beer brand “Chodovar” comes from the brewery in Chodová Planá, which is owned by private owners.

After the First World War , the Treaty of Saint-Germain was dictated to Austria-Hungary . The right of self-determination of the German-speaking population in the Sudetenland ( German Bohemia and German Moravians ), who founded the independent provinces of German Bohemia and Sudetenland in October 1918 , was not taken into account. The Czechoslovakia was founded.

As a result of the Munich Agreement , it was ceded to Germany in 1938 with the Sudetenland and belonged to the Tachau district until 1945 .

Expulsion of the Germans

After the Second World War , the German-speaking population was expelled from Kuttenplan , their property was confiscated by the Beneš Decree 108 and the Catholic Church was expropriated during the communist era . The Czech Republic made no compensation for the confiscated assets. As a result of the displacement, the population initially fell significantly.

On January 23, 2007 Chodová Planá was raised to Městys .

In addition to the municipal office, there is a primary school and a post office as well as the TJ Slavoj Chodová Planá sports club.

Attractions

The place is best known thanks to the oldest brewery in the West Bohemian region called Pivovar Chodovar . The first written mention of this brewery goes back to 1573. Evidence that beer was brewed much earlier on site is the original storage cellars from the 14th century, which were carved into a granite rock and are still used today for the post-fermentation of special lager beer. In part of the brewery cellar there is a small brewery museum and a restaurant. You can get there through a 40 meter long rock passage.

Also worth seeing in Chodová Planá is the small baroque chateau and the extensive park with old trees.
