history
The first mention of the place comes from the year 1359, when the church of the Holy Cross was raised to the parish church . However, the privileged Chodendorf is older.
The name of the church was transferred to the village, which from then on was called Svatý Kříž or German Holy Cross. Other names were Chodones , Antiqui Chodones , Chodové or Staré Chody .
In the originally Gothic church in the years 1790 to 1792 under the patronage reign of Sigmund von Haimhausen in baroque style was rebuilt, there is a grave stone with a coat of arms from the 16th century. The coat of arms of the Counts of Haimhausen is placed above the choir arch. The interior of the church was restored in 2014.
In 1426 the place came into the possession of the Meissen burgrave Heinrich I von Plauen , who on July 25, 1443 granted the residents significant privileges, including the application of the Tachau town charter and the inheritance rights of their property in male and female lines. At the end of the 15th century, more German-born residents came to Svatý Kříž and the place expanded.
In 1522, King Ludwig elevated Heiligenkreuz to a town and granted market rights for a weekly market that was held every Saturday. Ferdinand I confirmed the privileges granted in 1443 in 1549. Heiligenkreuz was part of it until Rudolf II sold the Tachau estate in 1606 . After the Battle of the White Mountain (1620) the area around Heiligenkreuz was withdrawn from the emperor. In 1625 Theodor von Haimhausen, who was originally called Viechpöck, before he was appointed to the rights of the extinct family of those von Haimhausen, bought Heiligenkreuz to the properties in Upper Bavaria (Haimhausen) together with the Kuttenplan and Neudorf estates.
The importance of Heiligenkreuz declined from the second half of the 16th century. The reason was the emergence of the competing cities of Tachau and Plan , which are located on the important roads , while the remote location of Heiligenkreuz meant that it remained a village. In 1606 Jobst Adam von Schirnding became the new owner of the estate and the village belonged to Kuttenplan until the patrimonial rule was abolished .
In 1843 Heiligenkreuz had about 600 inhabitants. In 1939 there were 723 people in Heiligenkreuz.
After the Munich Agreement , the place was added to the German Empire and until 1945 belonged to the Tachau district .
After the Second World War, the place bore the Czech name Svatý Kříž again , in 1960 it was given the current name Chodský Újezd . In 1955, parts of the community with homesteads that represent the folk architecture of the 17th and 18th centuries were placed under monument protection. The village pond, which also served as an extinguishing water reservoir, was abandoned and filled in around 2000.
