Sigmund von Haimhausen
Johann Sigmund Ferdinand Joseph Graf von Haimhausen (born December 28, 1708 in Munich , † January 16, 1793 in Munich) was a Bavarian lawyer, civil servant and entrepreneur.
Life
After completing his high school studies at the Jesuit Gymnasium Munich (today Wilhelmsgymnasium Munich ), Haimhausen studied law with his older brother Karl Ferdinand, from 1724 at the University of Salzburg , from 1726 at the Charles University in Prague . In the late summer of 1728 they went on trips and visited Dresden, Berlin, Lübeck, Hamburg and Amsterdam. This was followed by a semester on public law with Johann Jacob Vitriarius at the University of Leuven .
After his studies, he took over the family-owned lands and copper mines in western Bohemia, especially in the area around Tachau . In order to gain expertise, he studied mining, metallurgy and chemistry at the University of Leipzig . Due to his expert knowledge, he was in 1751 by Elector Maximilian III. Joseph was appointed as head of the newly established Münz- und Bergkollegium, the highest mining authority, in Munich. Haimhausen played a key role in the boom in Bavarian mining in the 18th century, especially through the establishment of the first Bavarian brick kiln. On his decisive initiative, the first Bavarian porcelain manufacture was established in Neudeck Castle in the Au in 1758 , and from 1761 in Nymphenburg .
Haimhausen became the founding president of the Kurbayerische Akademie (today: Bavarian Academy of Sciences ) in 1759 and remained in office until 1761, repeatedly in office from 1771 to 1779 and 1787 until his death in 1793.
