Johann Christoph Bendl

Johann Christoph Bendl , also Bendel , Bendtl and Pendl (baptized March 9, 1624 in Waldsee , † 1690 in Pfarrkirchen ) was a German sculptor .

The son of the sculptor Jakob Bendl acquired citizenship in parish churches in 1644 after a stay in Prague . There he held several municipal offices from 1651. So he officiated as an external and internal council, vice chamberlain and second mayor.

Under his father, he probably worked on furnishing the Sammarei pilgrimage church and the monastery church of Aldersbach monastery . In the parish church of the parish church he created the figures of Maria and Johannes and in the parish church of Postmünster the choir arch crucifix (so-called Imsland cross). The group of riders of St.Petersburg standing under the arcades in the courtyard of the castle in Arnstorf Dragon fighter Georg is attributed to him. He was the father of the sculptor Ehrgott Bernhard Bendl (1668–1738).
