Johann Christoph Droysen (* 1773 in Treptow ad Tollense , † 1816 in Treptow an der Rega ) was a German field and garrison preacher . He was the father of Johann Gustav Droysen .

Life

Johann Christoph Droysen was the youngest son of the shoemaker Christoph Droysen. Despite his father's poor situation, he studied theology at the University of Halle from 1792 to 1794 , became a private tutor and soon afterwards a field chaplain in a cuirassier regiment in Treptow ad Rega. In 1804 he married Friederike Kasten, the daughter of a Treptower ironworker.

After the defeat of Prussia in the battle of Jena and Auerstedt in 1806, he had to leave the family and went with his regiment to Kolberg . From there he took part in several military forays and befriended Joachim Nettelbeck and Karl Wilhelm Ernst von Waldenfels , who died fatally wounded in his arms after storming Wolfsbergschanze .

After the Peace of Tilsit , Droysen served in Blücher's headquarters and returned to Treptow as a garrison preacher. He also had to give private tuition to support his family. During this time he coughed up blood.

In 1812 he was able to take over the diaconate in Greifenhagen . In 1814 Droysen went back to Treptow as superintendent and first pastor, but died just two years later.
