Johann Detloff von Cossel
Johann Detloff Imperial Knight and Edler von Cossel , also Johann Detlef / Detlev von Cossel (born October 14, 1805 in Jersbek , † October 20, 1891 in Lübeck ) was a German administrative lawyer in the Danish service and the last Danish bailiff in Ratzeburg .
Life
Johann Detloff von Cossel comes from the noble family von Cossel and was one of six children of the royal Danish budget adviser Christoph Eberhard von Cossel (1753–1832) and his wife Friederike Louise, née. from Stemann. The painter and teacher Doris Lütkens was his older sister.
He studied law at the University of Kiel and was active here in the Corps Holsatia . After his graduation he entered the Danish administrative service in the duchies. He became 2nd official in the Steinhorst office and in 1842 as the successor to Joseph von Reventlow-Criminil Amtmann von Rendsburg . As such, he loyally represented Danish sovereignty in the run-up to the Schleswig-Holstein uprising and had a people's assembly suppressed on September 14, 1846 in Nortorf under threat of military violence.
In 1861 he was appointed as the successor to Joachim Bernhard Susemihl, who died in 1860, as bailiff and first official in the Ratzeburg office, based in St. Georgsberg. Here he experienced the change of rule of the Duchy of Lauenburg as a result of the German-Danish War in 1864 and the Gastein Convention in 1865. On September 26, 1865 he welcomed the new sovereign, King Wilhelm I of Prussia, at the Ratzeburg train station .
With the establishment of the Prussian administration, von Cossel was put up for discussion. Together with the second official from Levetzow, he argued with the Prussian tax authorities in 1875 about the further payment of their waiting allowances . After the formation of the Duchy of Lauenburg in 1876, he finally resigned in 1878 and retired, which he spent in Lübeck.
He was married to his cousin Karoline von Stemann (1810–1885). In the second half of the 1840s, Louise Froebel worked as a tutor in her household. Otto von Cossel (District Administrator) was a son of the couple. Otto von Cossel (genealogist) (1883–1967) and Maximilian von Cossel (1893–1967) were her grandchildren.
