Johann Eberle (physician)

Johann Eberle (born January 27, 1798 in Buch near Bregenz, † December 18, 1834 in Würzburg ), also Johann Nepomuk Eberle or Johann Baptist Eberle , was a German physician and physiologist .

Life

Eberle was born in Buch as the son of school teacher Peter Eberle (1764-1834) and his wife, midwife Maria Anna Flatz (1764-1834). In 1813/14 he attended the Königlich Baierische Studien-Anstalt in Kempten and in 1814/15 the secondary school in Feldkirch . In 1820 Eberle began studying medicine at the University of Würzburg . After completing his studies, he mainly dealt with digestive processes. He found that the spleen is not involved in digestive processes and that digestive enzymes from the pancreas break down starches and fats . In 1834 he published the monograph Physiology of Digestion . From 1832 Eberle worked as a general practitioner in Würzburg. In 1834, less than a year after his parents, Eberle died of "breast disease" (probably tuberculosis ).
