Johann Földi

Johann Földi (born December 25, 1755 in Szalárd in Bihar County , † April 6, 1801 in Hadhaz ) was a Hungarian doctor , linguist and scientist.

Life

Földi lost both parents at an early age. He attended schools in his birthplace. From 1773 he continued his school attendance in Debrecen . He moved to Baránd and later to Halas as a teacher. From 1784 he lived in Pest and studied medicine. In 1788 Földi received his doctorate. med. Another station in his life was Sathmar County . Here he practiced until 1791 and was appointed physicist. Földi dealt intensively with the natural sciences. He was also busy studying and training his mother tongue. With this, Földi fell on deaf ears. The Hungarian language was not taught in all schools until about 30 years after his death. In 1848 it was recognized as the lecture language in Hungary. She then gave way to the German language. From 1860, Hungarian was taught as compulsory.

Földi was a member of the Jena Society for Mineralogy and author of a Hungarian grammar.
