Bunte received music lessons from his father at an early age, first with the violin and later with other instruments. At the age of 14 he became a member of the Lippe-Detmold'schen Hoforchester. At the age of 18 he went to Osnabrück , where he received lessons in harmony from the local organist Veltmann. During this time he began to write smaller pieces of music.
