Johann Friedrich Burmester (born October 25, 1795 in Mölln , † June 10, 1855 in Groß Grönau ) was an Evangelical Lutheran pastor, consistorial assistant and Lauenburg historian .

Live and act

Burmester grew up as the son of Johann Peter Burmester, councilor and brewer in Mölln. He attended the Katharineum in Lübeck until he graduated from high school Michaelis in 1814. From 1814 to 1817 he studied theology at the University of Göttingen .

In 1818 he was employed as rector in Ratzeburg, in 1829 he became deacon and garrison pastor at the St. Petri Church (Ratzeburg) . From 1834 until his death he was pastor in Groß Grönau.

Burmester, who had a close relationship with Superintendent Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Catenhusen , endeavored to revive the Lutheran faith. He worked as a clerical consistorial assessor at the Lauenburg Consistory, the church governing authority.

In addition, Burmester dealt intensively with the history of the church in Lauenburg and, after intensive source research, brought out his contributions to the church history of the Duchy of Lauenburg in 1832 . These contain descriptions of all parishes in what was then the duchy of Saxony-Lauenburg , which was connected to the crown of Denmark , with lists of all pastors. His work was the first representation of the church in the Lauenburger Land since Hieronymus Wigand von Laffert's message from the parish churches from the year 1715. In 1882 an updated new edition was carried out by Pastor Johann August Amann.

Burmester was also involved in the publication of the Lauenburg church hymn book from 1841.
