Johann Friedrich III. (Saxony)
Johann Friedrich III. the younger (born January 16, 1538 in Torgau , † October 31, 1565 in Jena ) was a Duke of Saxony from the Ernestine line of the Wettins .
Life
Johann Friedrich was the fourth and youngest son of the Saxon Elector Johann Friedrich the Magnanimous (1503–1554) from his marriage to Sibylle (1512–1554), daughter of Duke Johann III. from Jülich-Kleve-Berg .
He was always sickly and weak as a result of childhood neglect. Already in his youth he turned to theology and went to Jena to study this science. Until 1557 under the tutelage of his older brother, Johann Friedrich ruled alone from then on, but initially left sole rule to his eldest brother for four years. This contract was extended for another four years in 1561.
Johann Friedrich III. Often mediated by his brothers because of his personality. He died unmarried and childless at the age of 27. His grave is in the city church in Weimar.
