Johann Friedrich Stapfer (born September 1, 1800 in Bern , † April 26, 1840 there ) was a Swiss politician and lawyer.

Life

Johann Friedrich Stapfer was the son of pastor Johann Friedrich Stapfer (born December 29, 1767 in Brugg ; † 1840), professor of theology in Bern and his wife Elisabeth Katharina Henriette (March 2, 1772 in Bern; † unknown), daughter of the court master Born in Königsfelden Karl Gross (born October 4, 1745 in Bern; † October 7, 1808 there). His brother was Karl Albrecht Stapfer (* 1807 in Brugg; † 1862).

Johann Friedrich Stapfer was tutored by his father until he was 20 and learned oriental languages ​​and theology. In order to perfect his education he went to Paris to his uncle Philipp Albert Stapfer , who was staying there as Swiss envoy, and to Antoine-Isaac Silvestre de Sacy . At the same time he studied law at the University of Paris and continued this later at the University of Heidelberg .

After returning to Bern, he became the second government secretary of the canton of Aargau and later the republic's first councilor in Bern .

In Bern he was a member of the sovereign council, the diplomatic council, the education and justice council and the federal council of state.
