Johann Georg Frimberger

Johann Georg Frimberger (born December 16, 1851 in Groß-Inzersdorf , † November 23, 1919 in Vienna ) was an Austrian dialect poet and writer from the Weinviertel .

Life

Johann Georg Frimberger was the son of a master binder. He himself was a construction draftsman and archivist for the railroad. His daughter Marianne Frimberger (1877–1965) was a well-known children's book illustrator.

In 1956 the Frimbergergasse in Vienna- Hietzing was named after him.

meaning

Frimberger's importance lies primarily in his dialect poems, which identify him as a connoisseur of the dialect of the wine country north of Vienna, the quarter under the Manhartsberg . He wrote in the ui dialect of the Weinviertel. He also wrote stories in High German and a novel set in that region.
