Johann Georg Oberteufer

Johann Georg Oberteufer (born February 28, 1750 in Herisau , † December 23, 1819 in Wattwil ; resident in Herisau) was a Swiss doctor and politician from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Johann Georg Oberteufer was a son of Johann Heinrich Oberteufer, a doctor in Herisau, and Johanna Barbara Meyer, daughter of Jeremias Meyer, state governor. In 1777 he married Susanna Bodmer, daughter of a lieutenant captain , from Wülflingen , now the municipality of Winterthur . In 1771 he obtained a doctorate in medicine in Strasbourg . He then worked as a doctor in Herisau. He was mainly active in obstetrics and as a surgeon . From 1798 to 1799 he was a member of the medical council of the Säntis canton and in 1810 the cantonal medical commission. He wrote practical medical, surgical and, above all, obstetric articles in respected specialist journals at home and abroad.
