Johann Giegerl

Johann Giegerl (born September 10, 1896 in Vienna , † April 30, 1967 in Köflach ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). From 1949 to 1962 he was a member of the Austrian National Council .

After primary school, Giegerl attended a commercial training school and learned the trade of carpenter. He worked as a miner and from 1923 was the miners' union secretary. He was also mayor of Pichling from 1921. In 1934 he was released for political reasons, imprisoned and taken to the Messendorf detention center and subsequently worked as an innkeeper and owner of a grocery store. During the Second World War he led the resistance movement in the Köflach district in 1945. After the end of the war, Giegerl was a senior employee of the miners' insurance from 1948.

Giegerl was head of the district party organization of the SPÖ Voitsberg and member of the state party representation of the SPÖ Styria. He represented the SPÖ in the National Council from November 8, 1949 to December 14, 1962.
