Johann Gottfried Frisch

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Gottfried Frisch (* 1656 or around 1661; † 1732 in Bogen ) was a Lower Bavarian sculptor and carpenter .

Life

Johann Gottfried Frisch worked in archery . He married Margaretha Strassmayr there in 1678 or 1679, the widow of the sculptor Andreas Strassmayr (1646–1678). The marriage resulted in at least two sons: Leonhard (mentioned in 1689 as a “young citizen's son”) and Bernhard (1679–1742), who was initially a sculptor, and later also Hofwirt zu Oberaltaich. In 1724 Friedrich Strassmayr, presumably a stepson, was in charge of the Bogener Sculptor Justice and Johann Gottfried Frisch only carried out smaller works “in discharge”.

Year of birth and origin

In 1719 Johann Gottfried Frisch is referred to as "about 58 years old". He would have been born around 1661. However, this can hardly be true, since he would have only been 17 or 18 years old at the time of marriage. Presumably he was a son of the Linz sculptor Johannes Frisch and a younger brother of Johann Christian Frisch . Accordingly, he would have been born in Linz in 1656 and grew up in Stadtamhof from around 1665 .

Works

The secured works by Frisch include wooden figures of Saints Florian and Sebastian in the Catholic parish church of St. Florian in Bogen, two choir arch retables in the Catholic church of St. Veit in Straubing and the model for the Trinity column erected in 1709 on Theresienplatz in Straubing, executed by Adam Hamerl .
