Johann Gottlieb Schott

Johann Gottlieb Schott (born April 28, 1751 in Nürtingen ; † May 9, 1813 in Stuttgart ) was a Württemberg theologian, historian, professor and librarian at the Ducal Public Library in Stuttgart.

Life

Schott obtained his master's degree in 1770 and, after studying theology for two years , was appointed to the High Charles School by Duke Karl Eugen from Württemberg in 1772 . He worked there as a professor of languages ​​and history.

In January 1786, Schott was brought to the ducal public library in Stuttgart as chief librarian alongside Georg Friedrich Vischer . From 1789 he was the sole senior librarian, i.e. director, of the library.

In the library, Schott primarily looked after the historical subjects and wrote several catalogs, some of which have survived to this day.
