Johann Halcke

Johann Halcke ( also: Johannes Halcke ), called "der Harrende" (* around 1665; † September 15, 1735 in Uetersen ) was a German author , mathematician , typist and arithmetic master .

He was the brother of Paul Halcke (Halcken), also a typist and mathematician, and had been a member of the Hamburgische Kunst -rechnung- loving and practicing society since 1690, now the Mathematical Society in Hamburg . Around 1700 Halcke was appointed scribe and arithmetic master for Denmark, Norway and Holstein under King Friedrich IV. At the same time he was a Danish calendar writer in the duchies and from 1700 to 1736 the author of the Schleswig-Holstein calendar. In 1734 Halcke wrote the first Royal Danish Court and State Calendar, a state manual for the Danish monarchy. He also wrote several textbooks that made him known beyond the country's borders.
