Johann Heggenzer von Wasserstelz († 1512) was Grand Prior of the Order of St. John in Germany from 1505 to 1512 . From 1503 to 1505 he was a Großbailli.

Life and career

Johann Heggenzer comes from the Schaffhausen patrician family of the Heggenzer von Wasserstelz , named after the castles Schwarz- and Weisswasserstelz near Kaiserstuhl (Aargau). In 1480 he was in the defense of Rhodes against the Ottoman troops. In 1496 he is documented as commander of Dorlisheim . From 1503 to 1505 he was Großbailli and responsible for the fortifications on Rhodes. In 1505 he was elected Grand Prior of the Order of St. John in Germany. To this office he received the Coming Bubikon , Leuggern-Klingnau and Wädenswil . In 1506, however, he renounced the coming Klingnau-Leuggern, which then also lost its status as a priory coming. In 1507 and 1508 he was also commander in Überlingen. In 1507, as commander of Wädenswil, he agreed castle rights with the city of Zurich . In 1508, as Kommendator von Bubikon, he had a dispute with his own people about the penalties for disagreeable marriages and withdrawal from the area of ​​the Kommende Bubikon, which the Council of Zurich had to decide. As commander of Wädenswil, he also had an argument with his subordinates over the delivery of carnival chickens. In 1509 he supported the building of the church in Wald with 275 pounds, he donated a stained glass window for the choir there, which depicts him as a kneeling knight.

From around 1508 he took his permanent seat in Heitersheim . With him, Heitersheim became the permanent seat of the Grand Priors of the Order of St. John in Germany. Johann Heggenzer von Wasserstelz died in Heitersheim in the first half of 1512.
