Johann Heinrich Acker
Johann Heinrich Acker (born August 12, 1647 in Naumburg (Saale) , † September 21, 1719 in Gotha ) was a German Protestant theologian and writer.
After attending school in Naumburg and Schulpforta , he began studying at Jena University in 1669 . After he had left it with the title of Magister and Adjunct of the Faculty of Philosophy, he became adjunct and pastor in Hausen near Gotha in 1673 . His career reached its climax with the position of court preacher and superintendent at Blankenhain , to which he was promoted in 1689. In 1717 he resigned from office for health reasons and moved to Gotha, where he died two years later.
Acker wrote numerous philosophical, literary-historical and church-historical writings. His most important work is the Historia reformationis ecclesiasticae tempore primitivae ecclesiae (“History of the ecclesiastical Reformation at the time of the early Church”, Jena 1685 and 1715). He often wrote under the pseudonym Melissander , after his mother's maiden name.
