Johann Heinrich Offermann

Johann Heinrich Offermann (* 1748 in Montjoie ; † 1793 in Brno ) was an Austrian textile entrepreneur and the founder of the von Offermann entrepreneurial dynasty.

Life

Offermann is the son of Wilhelm Offermann and his wife Katharina Gertrud, née Floß. He was baptized on November 8, 1748 in Montjoie. After Johann Leopold Köffiller leased the Aryan cloth factory in Brno , which had a bad reputation, in 1768 , he was not very successful with it despite advance support. In order to improve the quality of the cloth, the director Johann Bartholomäus Seitter recruited German cloth makers to Brno. The specialists recruited in 1771 from the cloth-making town of Montjoie in the Duchy of Jülich included Offermann and Wilhelm Mundy .

Offermann joined the Köffillersche cloth factory as a cashier and received the privilege of founding his own company in 1786 from Emperor Joseph II . On May 28, 1787 Offermann married in Pressburg (contingent on May 6, 13, 14 in Brno) Maria Elisabeth Schäffer from Pressburg, daughter of Johann Karl Schäffer and Anna Rosina Sarköczy. Offermann's cloth manufactory, which flourished within a short time, was privileged as a Moravian country factory in 1791. Offermann died prematurely in 1793. The company was managed by the cloth merchant Abraham Greisinger, who also took over the guardianship of Offermann's three underage sons. On reaching the age of majority, Offermann's youngest son Karl took over the company, which had meanwhile grown to become the largest textile factory in Brno.
