Johann Heinrich Schmedding (building officer)
Johann Heinrich Schmedding (born January 25, 1849 in Münster ; † January 25, 1921 there ) was a German architect and antiquarian .
Life
Schmedding was the architect of the museum in Haltern, which opened in 1907 (today: Museum in Haltern ).
In 1903 Schmedding headed the systematic excavation of a Carolingian court in Bossendorf near Haltern . He worked in Haltern and Kneblinghausen , and he also dug in the Haskenau tower hill castle . He examined numerous fortifications in Westphalia and published in the "Atlas of Prehistoric Fortifications in Westphalia".
From 1909 he was a member of the Antiquities Commission for Westphalia , from 1916 its chairman. He was an honorary member of the Society for Archeology and Homeland Care in Haltern.
