Johann Heinrich Thätjenhorst
Johann Heinrich Thätjenhorst (born November 30, 1803 in Bremen , † April 18, 1859 in Bremen) was a German engineer and cartographer .
biography
Thätjenhorst was the son of a language teacher. He studied mathematics and physics at the University of Göttingen to become an engineer. Initially he worked in the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg . He returned to Bremen and worked for the commission set up by Adam Ernst von Weltzin in 1824 for cadastral compilation and at the cadastral bureau established in Bremen in 1835 . Together with the surveyor and Gauss student Eberhard Klüver (1800–1845) from 1826 to 1850 , he initially carried out extensive cadastral surveys for the collection of property taxes but also for urban planning. Together with Lieutenant A. Duntze, in 1851 he published a map of the area of the free Hanseatic city of Bremen (lithograph by G. Hunckel from 1860) on a scale of 1: 29,000. The original card is in the Bremen State Archives .
Thätjenhorst was a co-founder of the artists' association in Bremen in 1856 , which promoted artistic and scientific topics in the Hanseatic city. From 1842 to 1851 he was a member of the Bremen Citizens ' Convention and the Bremen Citizenship .
