Johann Heinrich von cups ( Russian Иван Захарович Кельхен Ivan Sacharowitsch goblets ; born November 6 . Jul / 17th November  1723 greg. In Riga , † 1810 in St. Petersburg ) was a Russian physician .

Life

Origin and family

It remains unclear whether Kelchen belongs to one of the sexes of Kielchen . His parents were the mayor's servant Zacharias Kelchen and Christina, née Fors. The daughter Caroline († May 1841) emerged from the marriage with Anna Maria Catharina Butzkowski, who was married to the engineer-general Carl Graf Oppermann (1766-1831).

Career

Kelchen completed an apprenticeship as a surgeon and studied surgery at the Collegium medico-chirurgicum in Berlin since 1745 . He first found employment as a house surgeon with Sachar Tschernyschow in St. Petersburg, then became a staff physician in the artillery and from 1767 finally personal surgeon Katharinas II. He was head of the Kalinkin and Obuchow hospitals in St. Petersburg and in 1783 founded the surgical institute at Kalinkin -Hospital. The institute was designed primarily for German teachers with the German language of instruction to train Russian- Germans .

In 1785 Kelchen was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir III. In 1796 Paul I donated the Klein Tarwast manor in Livonia's governorate, which he pledged to Johann Juergenson in 1809. In 1797 he also advanced to the Real Council of State ( 4th class ), which ultimately equated to the hereditary nobility .

As a member he took a lively part in the work of the Free Economic Society from 1778 and was secretary of the society from 1785 to 1792.

In 1799 he was given leave of absence due to illness.
