Johann Hermann Duntze

Johann Hermann Duntze (born January 27, 1790 in Bremen , † February 16, 1874 in Bremen) was a German Reformed pastor and historian .

biography

Duntze was the son of a captain of the Bremen citizen companies . From 1808 to 1911 he studied theology and history at the University of Heidelberg and the University of Göttingen . He returned to Bremen in 1811 under the pressure of the French occupation and became assistant preacher at the Martinikirche Bremen , 1815 pastor in Mittelbüren and in Bremen- Grambke and from 1819 in Bremen- Rablinghausen . In 1869 he ended his pastor here. His most important work from 1845 to 1851 was the history of the free city of Bremen in four volumes.

He was married twice. His son Johannes was a landscape painter in Düsseldorf and his son Hermann was also a pastor in Rablinghausen until 1902.
