Johann Hinrich Gossler (born August 18, 1738 in Hamburg ; † August 31, 1790 there ) was a German merchant and banker.

Live and act

Gossler was one of the leading bankers and merchants in Hamburg in the 18th century , and a member of the Hanseatic Goßler family . From 1769 he was co-owner of the trading and banking house Berenberg (called Joh. Berenberg, Gossler & Co. from 1791). From 1768 he was married to Elisabeth Berenberg , the daughter of Johann Berenberg (1718–1772) and the only heiress of the Berenberg banking family . In 1788 Goßler took on his son-in-law Ludwig Edwin Seyler as a new partner.

His son Johann Heinrich Gossler (1775–1842) was a senator and his grandson Hermann Goßler (1802–1877) was first mayor. His descendants were ennobled in Prussia as von Berenberg-Gossler in 1888 and elevated to the baron status in 1910 .

He was a member of the Patriotic Society from 1765 .
