Johann Husak (born January 7, 1848 in Theresienstadt , Bohemia , † June 30, 1918 in Teplitz-Schönau ) was an Austrian - Bohemian politician ( German Progressive Party ) and businessman. He was mayor of the city of Teplitz from 1904 to 1918 and a member of the Austrian House of Representatives between 1907 and 1911 .

Life

Husak came to Teplitz at an early age. He attended elementary and community school and was professionally active as a businessman. He was subsequently elected president of the trade committee and was also director of the savings and advance payment association. Later he worked as the office director of the Teplitzer Sparkasse. In 1899 he was elected to the city council, and in the same year he rose to the city council. In 1904 he took over the office of mayor of Teplitz. Husak stood in the Reichsrat election in 1907 for the German Progressive Party in the constituency of Teplitz ( Bohemia 82 ) and achieved the relative majority with 43.7 percent of the votes in the first ballot. In the runoff election he finally prevailed against the free German Eduard Reichelt with around 58.4 percent . He was sworn in on June 17, 1907 and was subsequently elected to the Petitions Committee, where he also temporarily served as secretary. From 1909 he was also a member of the Inflation Committee. However, Husak remained inconspicuous during his time as a member of parliament, so that no motions or speeches from Husak are recorded in the shorthand records. Husak did not run for the Reichsrat election in 1911 , but worked as mayor of Teplitz until his death.

Husak died on June 30, 1918 after "long, painful suffering". His coffin was subsequently laid out in the ground floor anteroom of the town hall, while members of the rifle corps and the police guard kept the guard of honor. His funeral followed on July 2, 1918 in Teplitz-Schönau with the participation of the Teplitz kindergarten children, the youth service, the boy scouts, the warrior corps Crown Prince Rudolf and the volunteer fire brigade. In the mourning meeting of the city council, Husak's "German character" was highlighted, whereby he had rendered outstanding services to the "German protection work" and through his involvement in the German School Association and in the German Local Council.
