Count Johann I von Rietberg (* around 1450; † 1516 ) was Count von Rietberg from 1472 to 1516 . He was born as the eldest son of Count Konrad V and his wife Jacobe von Neuenahr. After his father's death in 1472, Johann I took over the fate of the county.

During a Schnadegang on May 1, 1474 with the citizens of Rietberg, he drank a barrel of beer with them. In 1477 Johann promised the town council of Rietberg and the local mayor that the old rights and customs would be restored. Furthermore, the law of the city of Lippstadt should also apply here.

Also in 1477 Johann's brother Curt traveled to Rome with Johann den Roden and his wife Lucke. The costs were raised by pledging the aldehyde in Bokel.

On April 24, 1481, Johann I and his wife Margarete entered the Marienfeld monastery under Abbot Johannes V. Wineken . On May 13, 1481, Johann donated an altar there for the salvation of his parents and siblings.
