Burial place

Konrad V is buried in the non-preserved part of the cloister in the former Cistercian monastery Marienfeld . On the grave slab was written in Latin:

Mille quadringentis septuagesimo secundo annis transactis,
mensis penultima the Octobris pius illustris et liberalis
Conradus comes de Retberg, proelio miles,
migrans a mundo divina pace quiescat.

In German translation:

"After 1472 years had passed, and on the penultimate day of October divorced as a soldier in battle, may the respected and generous Count Konrad von Rietberg rest in the peace of God."

Next to it the grave slab of his wife:

Quam premit hoc sacrum coniux veneranda sepulchro,
Retbergi comitis, Jacoba dicta fuit.
Illustrem genuit *** generosa propago (Jacoba von Neuenahr)
Hanc comitum, inde pari nupserat illa thoro
Quam forma excoluit, vitam, prudentia, virtus
Candida apud superos vivat it illa pios
MCCCCXCII, nocte sancti Matthiae

In German translation:

The venerable woman who presses this unfortunate gravestone was the wife of Count von Rietberg, Jakoba. She produced a noble family of counts, and so she married as equals. She was distinguished by beauty, cleverness and virtue her life. May she live without sin with the righteous in heaven. 1492, the night before St. Matthias.

Works

Konrad V had the Rietberg Castle Chapel built, which was consecrated on July 2, 1464. In 1456 he had to give his county to the Landgrave of Hesse as a fief, whereby his county lost the imperial immediacy . In return, he received 600 Rhenish guilders.
