Johann I (Cyprus)
John I of Cyprus and John II of Jerusalem (* around 1256 ; † May 20, 1285 ) was the son of Hugo III. , King of Cyprus , and Isabella of Ibelin . After the death of his father, he was crowned on May 11, 1284 in Nicosia . His succession in the Kingdom of Jerusalem was opposed by Charles of Anjou , who had also opposed his father's government.
Johann died the following May unmarried and childless. He was buried in the Church of St. Demetrius in Nicosia. According to some sources, he was poisoned by his brothers, one of whom, Henry II , followed him in Cyprus and Jerusalem.
