Johann III. from Eu
Johann von Brienne († July 11, 1302 at Courtrai ) was called Johann III. a Count of Eu and Guînes ( iure uxoris ) from the House of Brienne . He was a son of John II of Eu and Beatrix of Châtillon.
Johann was married to Johanna von Guînes, a granddaughter of Count Arnold III. by Guînes . Nevertheless, he had to lead a lawsuit in front of the parliament in Paris for their inheritance, since in 1285 his wife's grandfather was forced to sell the county of Guînes to the French crown. The dispute ended in John's favor in February 1295 after King Philip IV the Fair transferred the county to him and his wife.
Johann then fought for the king in the Flanders War and fell in 1302 in the Battle of the Golden Spurs against the Flemings. He was buried in Foucarmont Abbey . His son was Raoul .
