Raoul I. de Brienne
Raoul I. de Brienne (* 1302 ; † January 18, 1344 in Paris ) was the son of John III. , Count of Eu and Johanna, Countess of Guînes . He followed his father, who fell in the battle of the Spurs , as Count of Eu in the year of his birth.
In 1327 he became the king's deputy in Saintonge , and in 1329 Connétable of France . He later became the king's deputy again, first in Hainaut , and later (1331) in Languedoc . He accompanied John of Bohemia , King of Bohemia , to Italy. In 1332 he brokered the peace treaty between France and Castile.
Raoul I. de Brienne died at the age of 41 in a tournament. He was buried in Foucarmont .
In 1315 he married Jeanne de Mello († 1351), mistress of Lormes and Château-Chinon , daughter of Dreux de Mello from the House of Mello , Lord of Château-Chinon, Jarnac , Sainte-Hermine etc., and Jeanne de Toucy . The couple had three children:
