Johann Jacob Behrens

Johann Jacob Behrens (born February 29, 1788 in Hamburg ; † unknown) was a German organist , composer and music teacher .

Life

Behrens received his training as an organist and composer from Christian Friedrich Gottlieb Schwencke (1767-1822), the organist at St. Nikolaikirche in Hamburg.

He became organist at the orphanage church in Hamburg and singing teacher at the Johanneum . He held both positions until his retirement. As a composer he created especially organ pieces, church choirs and songs . He also gave private lessons; one of his best-known students was Carl Voigt (1808–1879), the founder and first conductor of the Hamburg Cäcilienverein .
