Hans-Peter Harstick
Hans-Peter Harstick (born July 9, 1937 in Hildesheim ) is a German historian . He is professor emeritus for history at the Technical University of Braunschweig .
Life
After graduating from high school in 1957 at the Josephinum Hildesheim high school , Harstick studied history , German , philosophy and law and political science at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster from 1957 to 1965 . From 1962 to 1965 he was a scientist. Employed at the Chair of Eastern European History. From 1966 to 1975 he was department head at the International Institute for Social History (IISG) in Amsterdam . It was in 1974 when Werner Hahlweg at the Faculty of Philosophy in Münster with the dissertation Comparative studies on the history of land ownership in the estate of Karl Marx to Dr. phil. doctorate, for which he received a faculty award. The East European historian Manfred Hellmann was responsible for the supervision of the work, which broke new ground in terms of source studies, the history of theory and editing.
In 1975 he succeeded Georg Eckert as a full professor for history and history didactics at the Lower Saxony University of Education and in 1978 at the history seminar of the Technical University of Braunschweig . His main areas of work are modern history with a special focus on social and constitutional history as well as Marx-Engels research and edition. With the support of the Internationaal Instituut voor Sociale Geschiedenis (Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie van Wetenschappen), Amsterdam, Harstick got involved in the process of the German-German science association in favor of a continuation of the outdated Marx-Engels Complete Edition (MEGA) as a historical-critical edition without any partisan politics Objectives.
From 1990 to 2012 he was chairman of the scientific advisory board of the International Marx-Engels-Foundation (IMES) in Amsterdam and at the same time belonged to the steering committee "Marx-Engels-Gesamtausgabe", which in 1992 after a positive evaluation of the MEGA by the science council of the newly founded Berlin Brandenburg Academy of Sciences (BBAW) was launched. From 1992 to 2008 he was commissioned by the Conference of the Academies of Science and, from 1994, by the BBAW, to take on the challenging task of project management for the Marx-Engels-Gesamtausgabe (MEGA) academy project and, until 1998, he was also responsible for the head office in the host countries of Berlin, Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia.
In Braunschweig, Harstick, as a curator, accompanied the "International Textbook Institute" founded by his predecessor in its lengthy efforts to become a member of the Leibniz Association and is still in charge of the association to this day. Hans-Peter Harstick is married to Annegret Harstick, b. Borchard, and has two children.
