Johann Jakob Baur (born June 20, 1729 in Genkingen ; † November 5, 1776 in Tübingen ) was a German Protestant theologian , orientalist and philologist .

Life

Johann Jakob Baur was matriculated at the University of Tübingen in 1747 . In 1747 he got the Bacc. art. and in 1749 the Mag. art. From 1749 he studied theology. He became vicar in Lustnau . From 1754 he was a repetiteur in Tübingen. 1760–1772 he was an associate professor for philosophy and oriental languages ​​in Tübingen (appointment with rescript on December 15, 1759). In 1769 he also became an associate professor of theology. In 1770 he was promoted to Dr. theol. PhD. From 1772 to 1775 he was a full professor of Greek, Hebrew and Oriental languages ​​and simultaneously took over the subjects of eloquence and poetry. 1775–1776 he was associate professor of theology (4th chair). 1774–1775 he was librarian at the University of Tübingen; 1775 rector of the Contubernium . His portrait, painted in 1774, hangs in the professors' gallery in Tübingen .
