Johann Joseph Ignaz Brentner (Czech Jan Josef Ignác Brentner , he preferred the name Joseph) (born November 3, 1689 in Dobrzan ; † June 28, 1742 ibid) was a Bohemian composer of the late Baroque.

Life

Brentner's father was the mayor of Dobrzan. Between 1717 and 1720 Johann Joseph Brentner lived in Prague , where he published several works. Brentner seems u. a. to have been associated with the religious brotherhood of Saint Nicholas in Lesser Town Prague . For this he wrote several "German Trauermotetten". His “Offertoria solenniora” op. 2 were dedicated to his patron Raymund Wilfert, the abbot of Teplá Abbey .

Brentner's music is held in the late baroque concert style and is occasionally characterized by simple song-like motifs. Many of his arias are set in the form of the da capo aria and those of the “Harmonica duodecatomeria ecclesiastica, op. 1” are remarkable for the concertante handling of the accompanying solo instruments, especially the violin. In the Strahov Monastery in Hofburgkapelle and Scots Church (Vienna) Brent dryer was Laudate Dominum listed until the 19th century.
