Johann Joseph Vilsmayr
Johann Joseph Vilsmayr (* 1663 ; † July 11, 1722 in Salzburg ) was an Austrian violinist and composer .
Life
From September 1, 1689, Vilsmayr was a violinist in the court orchestra in Salzburg. Here he was certainly a student of the conductor Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber . The success of his skills can be seen in the increases in his salary in the books of the principality. At the beginning he received only 6 guilders per month plus bread and wine, in 1697 it was already 25 guilders and he is listed as a valet in the books.
Only one printed work is known to this day, the ARTIFICIOSUS CONCENTUS PRO CAMERA, distributus in Sex Partes, seu Partias à Violino Solo Con Basso bellè imitate , published in Salzburg in 1715. It was long suspected that Con Basso bellè imitate referred to a lost bass part. Only at the end of the 1990s did a British music historian convincingly come to the conclusion that there must be 6 solo sonatas for violin, some of which use the scordatura (the detuning of individual strings) that was popular at the time .
