Johann Kampferbeke (Councilor)

Johann Kampferbeke (* in Feldhausen in Westphalia; † May 29, 1573 in Lübeck ) was a German merchant, councilor of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck and commander of the Lübeck fleet.

Life

Kampferbeke was elected to the city council of Lübeck in 1562 as an immigrant citizen. In 1565 and 1566, as sub-admiral, he was in command of the Lübeck fleet, which was in the three-crown war against Sweden in 1565 under the orders of councilor Friedrich Knebel and in 1566 under the command of mayor Bartholomeus Tinnappel . He was married to a daughter of the Lübeck citizen Johann Schlueter. The mayor of Lübeck, Johann Kampferbeke, was his son. His portrait was once on the north facade of the Lübeck town hall .
