Johann Ludwig Will

Johann Ludwig Will (* before 1736; † 1771 ) was a German Protestant pastor in Niederlausitz , who published an extensive Lower Sorbian / Wendish hymnal.

Life

Johann Ludwig Will was the son of a court assistant in Küstrin in the Neumark . In 1736 he became pastor in Briesen in the Spreewald. There he got to know the Wendish language. In 1749 a new Wendish hymn book was published on his initiative, for which he translated 42 texts. In 1760 he published a well-established Wendish hymn book with a total of 442 songs, which was printed in six further editions by 1915.
