Johann Maras
Johann Maras (born November 8, 1892 in Vienna ; † December 5, 1944 there ) was an Austrian conductor and resistance fighter against the Nazi regime . He was sentenced to death by the Nazi judiciary and beheaded in the Vienna Regional Court .
Life
The tram worker and conductor Maras was in custody from November 17 to December 23, 1939 for "offenses under the treachery law ". He was arrested by the Gestapo as part of an action against the Vienna KPÖ leadership in October 1943, sentenced to death by the People's Court on October 25, 1944 for “preparation for high treason ” and executed with the guillotine in the Vienna Regional Court on December 5 of the same year .
Commemoration
His name can be found on two memorial plaques for resistance fighters against National Socialism :
- in the former execution room of the Vienna Regional Court , as well
- at the Favoriten depot of the Wiener Verkehrsbetriebe (Gudrunstraße 153–159).
