Johann Martin Müller (editor)
Johann Martin Müller (born September 11, 1819 in Stein , † February 19, 1892 in Herisau ; resident in Stein AR) was a Swiss editor , teacher and politician from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .
Life
Johann Martin Müller was a son of Martin Müller, teacher and farmer , and Regina Engler. In 1840 he married Barbara Waldburger, daughter of Hans Konrad Waldburger. From 1834 to 1836 he attended the Schurtannen School in Trogen . From 1836 to 1839 he completed the teachers' seminar in Kreuzlingen . From 1839 to 1856 he worked as a teacher in Stein and from 1856 to 1862 in Speicher .
He published two reading books, a singing book and a canton map for school lessons. He composed several songs. From 1875 to 1883 he sat on the audit council. From 1862 to 1889 he was the first full-time editor of the Appenzeller Zeitung . Under Müller's direction, the newspaper consolidated its position as a leader in Ausserrhoden and its reputation as a respected liberal newspaper that resolutely opposed any conservatism . With his pointed comments, however, Müller also attracted attention outside the canton.
